I receive 4-5 emails a day from people telling me that they have seen
the magical P4/P5 hack with their own eyes, and that it is coming
really really soon from their friends's cousin's uncle's little
brother. And I always reply "Right yup whatever okay"... because I
don't want to be rude!
The reality is that the P4/P5 hack is not going to be pulled off in
someone's basement. There are maybe six labs in the world that are
capable of decrypting these cards, with the right technical/hacker
staff and the proper equipment... and these labs are owned by
SATELLITE COMPANIES: Nagra, NDS Canal+, etc. As far as I can tell,
these are the only people who might be able to crack the new cards.
If you get a chance, you scan the court documents for the Nagra VS NDS
and others" lawsuit. It was alleged that NDS hired a well-known
hacker/cracker named Oliver, took him to their lab in Haifa (Israel),
had him hack the Nagra card, and then gave the codez to others through
a network of NDS employees and hackers.
In my view, the reason for this was simple: NDS' card was hacked and
their biggest customer (Dave) was not happy about it. Dave was
thinking about not renewing their contract with NDS, and maybe getting
Nagra to do the work since their codes were pristine. Perhaps NDS
decided to hack the Nagra card and give it to hackers, so that Nagra
would be tarred with the same brush.
People say to me, Bella, the silly H card was hacked, and the Hu was
ripped to shit pretty fast... why can't P4/P5 be hacked? It's just a
piece of plastic, after all.
There is no question in my mind that anything can be hacked. But rest
assured, it will not be done by lameass street hackers, scriptkiddie
school kids, or some Navy vet in a garage. It will be done by one of
the five or six real labs I mentioned above, or it will be leaked from
the inside.
I believe the reason we have seen H and Hu codes cracked so quickly is
because NDS did the cards for Dave, and only interest NDS had was the
access card. Since Nagra codes were dumped all over the 'Net they had
no fear for losing their contract with DTV, so they intentionally
sold/released the codez which brought them huge $$$ in both the short
and long terms.
It is going to be different story with P4/P5 cards. Since NDS ended up
buying DTV, it is different ball game. Their interest in not security
anymore, it is the entire ball of wax. They will make sure the new
cards are not hacked, as it will effect their bottom line.
